The non-Prayer Cards

A week ago today, my father in law passed away in the hospital.  This isn’t about that.

This past Sunday, we had a visitation for his friends & family.  He was non-religious, but we wanted something like a prayer card for him.  We decided this about 11:30am on Sunday, and we had to be dressed and out the door by 12:30pm.

My wife had a bunch of scraps from her letterpress work, and designed up a card that would fit nicely on the paper.  We ran it through my inkjet printer (which will do flat-feed & oversize paper), and she cut them down to size.  Within an hour, we had a couple dozen cards.

This is something our education & experience gave us the tools to do: we had a deadline, we had some random parts, and we were able to put together something beautiful given the time frame.  The only thing that could have made them nicer is if we letterpressed them, but we would have needed a week to prepare, which we just didn’t have in that hour.
